AbstractPhenetic analysis of 56 species of Ricinidae (Phthiraptera: Amblycera) characterised by 152 morphometric features was carried out. The standard computer programs of numerical taxonomy: NT-SYS and TAXAL B. 1 were used. The results allowed to verify and intergrate two seperate classifications of the species of the Old and New World, both based on conventional descriptions. Controversial problems concerning taxonomic relationships between some species were discussed. The purosefulness of joining phenetic groups characterised by dimorphic mandibles in higher group amoung Ricinidae was confirmed. On the other hand, in the remaining groups with the mandibles of other type, the arrangement of groups as well as intergroup resemblances appeared to be dependent on the similariy co-efficients, grouping techniques and data sets. Pattern of host-specificity and coevolution was summerised for the phenetic group and the passerine families.
